Traffic

The location of Pohjois-Savo in central Finland is ideal from the point of view of communications. Savo is a gateway to the east and Russia, Helsinki is half-an-hour's flight time away and connecting flights to European Centres and elsewhere in the world are frequent.

There are daily flights to Helsinki from both Kuopio (7 departures) and Varkaus (4 departures). Highway no. 5 running from the south to the north, the Blue road reaching from the Atlantic Ocean to Karelia, the Savo railroad and the waterways of Saimaa and Paijanne serve a variety of travelling and transport needs. Through the Saimaa canal, freight connections to the rest of the world operate all year round.
