Tahko, Puijo winter sports centre and several smaller slalom slopes are the most popular winter destinations. Well-maintained ski tracks and snow mobile tracks cover hundreds of kilometres. There are several quest harbours and well maintained stopping places along the beautiful waterways.

The summer is full of big events such as the internationally highly acclaimed Kuopio dance festival or the opera event organised in Aholansaari in Nilsia as well as other public events around the region. Pleasure cruises, canals and canoe runs, golf courses and prime fishing waters invite you for an active holiday. Savo culinary tradition is reason enough to make a visit and the kalakukko loaf, a regional dalicacy of fish baked in rye bread, should be experienced by everybody.
