Regional interests

Housing and the environment are central factors in the quality of life. Over a thousand homes have been built annually in Pohjois-Savo since the mid 90s, half of them being detached houses or terraced houses. In total there are about 120,000 housing units in the area. Rented accommodation is also available in Pohjois-Savo and the price level of owner-occupier housing is reasonable. In Kuopio the prices are average when compared to the entire country and a third less expensive than in the Helsinki area. In Savo, the housing is comfortably spaced and the surrounding nature is a source of beneficial influence.

There are about 28,000 holiday homes in the region and the number is increasing by 300 to 400 annually. More and more holiday homes are built for use throughout the year. Many municipalities can offer plots of land situated by lakes for the construction of homes.
