Health care

Public social and health care services are functioning well in Pohjois-Savo. The biggest employers are the Kuopio University Hospital, the Regional Hospital of Iisalmi, the Regional Hospital of Varkaus, Niuvanniemi Hospital in Kuopio and health centres in the districts. Niuvanniemi Hospital is a mental hospital for prisoners. Approximately 170 private health care service producers and four private hospitals complete the covering services.
