Culture

The culture of Savo is varied and unique. It has been influenced by the traditions of the region both from the east and the west, which are often expressed in a modern and courageously experimental way. The theatres in the larger cities, music and culture centres, libraries and several nationally important museums are centres for arts and culture.

There are plenty of events specially during the summer. The Kuopio dance festival, the Iisalmi beer festival, the Carry-the-Wife World Championship competition in Sonkajarvi, numerous regional festivities, musical events, art exhibitions and summer theatres as well as sports events draw people from near and afar, even from abroad.
